Built in 1867, La Maison Bruyère was originally a boarding school and convent for the Sisters of Charity during the life of Mother Elizabeth Bruyère. In 2008, it was restored and converted into a luxury country house estate by resident owners Louise Brazeau Ward and her son John Ward.
It is situated in Aylmer (Gatineau, Qc.), close to the Aylmer Marina with its spectacular sunsets, and is only a few kilometers away from Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ont. La Maison Bruyère offers accommodation and five-star service for overnight business meetings, spiritual retreats as well as family gatherings and events such as weddings, receptions, baptisms or vow renewals.
It is also home to a satellite campus of l’Academie de Formation Linguistique which offers daily classes in second language training as well as immersion programs with in-house stays. La Maison Bruyère can be rented in exclusivity, for a three-night stay on a bed and breakfast basis (or for longer periods if required) to accommodate your needs.
La Maison Bruyère is a home, not a hotel, that guests are invited to share as friends rather than clients. It offers relaxed formality in an elegant and serene setting. It is a tranquil respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The gardens of La Maison Bruyère have been carefully tended to create an oasis of calm and tranquility, reflective of the time when the nuns who once lived there cared for the land while meditating on the beauty of life. Idyllic tree-bordered pathways lead to the statue of the Lady of Fatima which was erected over 50 years ago.
Banks of roses, irises and lavender stretch alongside grassy footpaths; apple, cherry and lilac trees adorn the serene landscape and a beautiful pond rests peacefully in the midst of a magical sunken garden. One can laze on one of the elegant sun loungers under the branches of the famous oak tree; sit on one of the many stone benches strewn throughout the gardens or take afternoon tea under the shade of an umbrella at one of the tables alongside the pond and simply absorb the inspiring atmosphere of La Maison Bruyère
